Accessibility statement
This website should work well for everyone. We publish this statement voluntarily, even though the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) most likely doesn’t apply to us.
Which standard applies
We build the website to the European standard EN 301 549, which means at least the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. Our goal is WCAG 2.2, level AA. The same standard applies to the app.
Where we stand
The website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. We have checked it ourselves: with automated tests, using only a keyboard, at 200% zoom, on narrow screens, in light and dark mode and in contrast mode. Testing with screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA) and with disabled people is still to come. Until then we don’t call the site “fully conformant”.
What the website offers
- All colours meet at least the WCAG AA contrast ratio, in each of the six colour worlds.
- A contrast mode with even stronger colours, thicker borders and underlined links. It turns on when your browser asks for more contrast, and you can switch it on and off in the footer.
- Light and dark mode following your system setting.
- Everything works with a keyboard, with a visible focus and a “Skip to content” link.
- Text can be enlarged to 200% without anything being cut off.
- Clear headings, the language of every page marked up, and descriptions for images.
- Motion is reduced if you have set that in your system.
- The site also works without JavaScript. Only the colour choice and the contrast switch are missing then; contrast mode still follows your browser.
Known limitations
- The technical documents (protocol and threat model) are hosted on GitHub. We have no influence on GitHub’s accessibility.
- The example view of the app on the home page is presented as an image with a short description. The made-up example questions are not read out individually.
Report a barrier
Have you found something you can’t use, or can only use with difficulty? Write to us at hello@ourquestiondiary.app, ideally with the subject “Report a barrier”. We reply within 14 days and tell you whether and by when we can remove the barrier.
